Agriculture sector is crucial for economics and affecting live of millions of farming communities throughout the region. During the ASEAN Prepatory Meeting for The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) in Bangkok by end of February 2017, the ASEAN Climate Resilience Network (ASEAN-CRN) agreed that ASEAN member states need to speak in one voice to ensure that SBSTA makes progress on agriculture.
Under the United Nations Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC), the SBSTA is one of the two permanent subsidiary bodies to the Convention. This was established by the Conference of the Parties (COP) and serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP).
ASEAN submission to UNFCCC’s SBSTA 46 in October 2018 is reflecting the commonalities view on the the Koronivia road map under the Koronivia joint work on agriculture (decision 4/CP.23) on topic 2(a) – Modalities for implementation of the outcomes of the five in-session workshops on issues related to agriculture and other future topics that may arise from this work.
The submission was made available through the joint effort of the ASEAN-CRN supported by partners such as the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC), Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO ROAP) and The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS).
