The Department of Agriculture Thailand acting as the Chair of ASEAN Climate Resilience Network (ASEAN-CRN) will host a three-day virtual conference on 16 – 18 November 2021 with title: ASEAN Conference on Policy and Governance for Climate-Smart Land Use.
The conference promotes a systemic approach to the connections between climate change and land use. It will shed light on successful approaches and lessons learned in the Southeast Asia region. Its main aim is to increase knowledge about strategies, policies, and governance frameworks for promoting the development, adoption and upscaling of climate-smart land use practices at local, national and regional level in the ASEAN region.
The event will together policy-makers, practitioners and researchers working on food agriculture and forestry, rural development and on environmental issues. During the three conference days participants will have the chance to discuss about different aspects of governance, namely: multi-level governance for climate-smart land use (day 1), inclusive and participatory policy-making for the promotion and adoption of climate-smart land use (day 2), and creating an enabling environment for private investments in climate-smart land use (day 3).
The outcomes of the conference will feed into further regional dialogue and cooperation activities, inform the implementation of ASEAN strategies such as the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework (ACRF), and raise awareness of regional policy tools such as the ASEAN Guidelines on the Promotion of Climate Smart Agriculture Practices and the ASEAN Guidelines on Promoting Responsible Investment in Food, Agriculture and Forestry.
The conference is being supported by the Climate-Smart Land Use in ASEAN (CSLU) project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and several other partner organisations are contributing to the event by providing organisational support and expertise.
The virtual conference on 16-18 November 2021 will start at 1 pm (Bangkok/Jakarta time, UTC +7).
